The psalmist describes a point of despair where God intervened to free him. The catalyst for freedom was prayer, actively asking the Lord for help.
The scenario reminds me of hitting the end of myself, falling to my knees, and begging God for relief. I’d tried to break the hold of addiction and depression on my own for years, but no matter how hard I tried I failed. That’s because I hadn’t completely surrendered to God. I needed Him to be an active and daily part of my recovery. That desperate prayer, changed everything.
Prayer transforms us because it is our conversation with our creator. Just like our relationships with friends and family grow stronger with interaction, so does our relationship with the Lord. The more frequent our conversations become, the stronger our connection becomes. Prayers of desperation become less frequent because we don’t wait until we’re at the bottom of the pit to cry out, but are In daily contact with the Father.
He hears us and will set us free as we trust Him and surrender to Him.
