When David wrote this psalm, he was pursued by Saul who wanted to kill him. He sought shelter with Ambimelech but was refused and sent away. He feared for his life.
Yet, instead of succumbing to fear, David sought the Lord and was delivered from his fears. The threats against him didn’t suddenly disappear, but David’s experience in the midst of them changed.
The lesson from this Psalm is that when fear threatens to immobilize us, seeking the Lord can drive the fear out of our minds. Whether it’s speaking truth (scripture) out loud, praying, or reaching out to a trusted friend to pray with you, seeking God when emotions want to control the outcome settles my soul. The situation may not change, but I am better equipped to navigate it.
