Romans 12:1 marks a shift in the tone and message of Romans. Chapters 1-11 are deeply theological, containing descriptions of the human condition, sin, and God’s grace through Jesus Christ. Then in Chapter 12 he unpacks the theology and gives concrete instructions to guide Christians as they carry out their beliefs in real time.
I’m a firm believer in applying knowledge to our everyday lives and Romans 12:1 is a good place to start. Paul knew his audience understood the practice of sacrifice and used it to explain how believers could demonstrate their faith everyday by being a living sacrifice. A living sacrifice means striving to reflect Jesus in all we do, not as an obligation, but as a response to God’s mercy and grace.
Paul closes the verse by connecting our actions as a form of worship which may seem odd to some. However, worship is more than singing or listening to worship music. Worship includes anything that honors the Lord. In that light, how we live our lives is definitely an act of worship. #FaithInTheFog #traumarecovery #dailyinspiration #sacrifice #worship
