Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 15 to help the Corinthians understand the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ because some doubted the physical resurrection. He argues that the resurrection is the foundation of Christian faith and without it, faith is useless.
In verses 55-56, Paul taunts death, saying, “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.” Then verse 57 bursts forth with praise and triumph as a response to the reality of the resurrection.
Death is defeated and we no longer face death with fear and trembling because of Christ’s sacrifice. Our future is secure, not by works, but by one man’s actions for all of humanity.
Grief is real and healthy, but made more manageable because of faith.
