Psalm 146 is part of the final group of psalms of praise in the Book of Psalms. In verse 8, the psalmist declares God’s sovereignty by listing His actions toward the righteous. He opens the eyes of the blind, both physically and spiritually, He lifts up those who are bowed down and He does these things because He loves us.
Blindness isn’t always physical, but can be spiritual. Spiritual blindness prevents us from seeing truth that would set us free from so many things in our lives. Once our eyes are open, everything looks different, from our perception of the world, to how we view ourselves. The experience is both invigorating and challenging as we realize the changes we need to make in our lives.
The good news, as reflected in the second part of Psalm 146:8, is the Lord is right beside us to lift us up and help us navigate the new road He has placed us on. When the weight of the world bows us down, the Lord is there with His outstretched hand.
