Testing and examining our behavior is hard.
Lamentations 3:40 is the passage used in Celebrate Recovery in Step 4 (inventory) of the program. As I revisited this part of my recovery journey last week I was reminded of the pain, shame, and guilt that accompanies the deep dive into my life. However, I also remembered that taking inventory of my attitude, behaviors, hurts, and failures isn’t the only purpose of digging into my life. A key, yet often overlooked part of the process, is recognizing and acknowledging my strengths and abilities.
Remembering and honoring the person God created is a vital part of my healing process. When I look at my life honestly, the good far outweighs the bad. The problem occurs when allow my flaws to define my identity instead of standing on the truth that I’m a child of God.
An honest personal inventory includes the good and the bad. Go never intended for us to focus only on our flaws. He knitted us together in our mother’s womb and we are a beautiful creation. Nothing will change that.
