Being still before God isn’t easy, especially when the cares of life race through my brain. Psalm 46:10 tells me to be still but doesn’t stop there. He continues with declarations of God’s sovereignty. Today’s verse hit me differently today. I generally look at it as instruction to sit with the Lord in silence for guidance and comfort, but today I look at the last two sentences and realize that the message is actually, “Stop trying to control everything. Stop striving so hard and let me be God.”

I think of the many times I’ve argued with God about how my life is going or taken things into my own hands when I thought He delayed His answer too long. In nearly every case, the Lord has reminded me of His sovereignty, sometimes gently, but sometimes not so gently.

In reality, the verse is about surrender, allowing God to be God, and trusting Him to do what He says He will do.
