At The Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples that He was leaving and they could not follow Him, then He reassured them they would not be alone. He promised a helper that would dwell within them forever. He also promised to return and described His resurrection. Today’s verse is the culmination of His conversation. The words likely confused the disciples but also gave them hope.
Unlike the those first followers of Christ, we haven’t walked side by side with Him in the flesh. However, as believers, we share the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. He is ever present to guide, convict, comfort, and encourage us daily. He never leaves us alone. The promise Jesus made 2000 years ago still holds true today. He will never leave us as orphans.
