Yesterday my pastor spoke about this verse by asking the question, “Are you really struggling with … if you’re not resisting the devil?” That’s a paraphrase, but the message was clear. If we invite things in, embrace them, or tell ourselves “no one sees this,” we’re not resisting we’re feeding the urges that separate us from God.
Now, don’t get me wrong we do struggle to resist temptation, but its power diminishes when we change our daily habits to align with the truth. The first part of today verse states, “Submit yourselves therefore to God.” If we begin each day with surrender and do all we can to keep our focus on Him instead of the world, those little thoughts that pull us back to the darkness, lose their hold.
We cannot fight the battle alone and the Lord stands ready to fight with us and for us. We just have to resist the devil and he will flee.
