As I think about all the loss that has occurred recently, this verse resonated with me this morning.
Grief can be overwhelming and is sometimes misunderstood especially among believers, but today’s verse reminds us that those who mourn are blessed and that they will be comforted.
When we lose a loved one, grief is the normal and healthy response to the loss. Openly grieving doesn’t reflect a lack of faith or doubt in God’s promises. Rather, sorrow is the cost of loving the person we have lost. And allowing ourselves to grieve and to be comforted is essential to healing.
Today’s verse tells us mourning is not only healthy but blessed and promises comfort to those who mourn. As with all difficult seasons of life, we are not alone, we don’t have to pretend that everything is fine, and it’s okay to ask others to come beside us in our grief.
