The third piece of armor represents stability and balance. Roman soldiers wore heavy-duty sandals or boots studded with nails or spikes to keep a firm grip on the ground during a fight. Likewise, having our feet “shod” means being strapped in and ready to stand your ground without slipping or falling.
The Gospel of peace is the good news that Jesus Christ reconciled our relationship with God through His death on the cross and His resurrection. The peace and confidence found in the gospel give believers the stability to stand firm against doubt and the readiness to share God’s message with others.
Keeping our “shoes” in good repair requires a strong commitment to fully understand the Gospel message and striving to reflect Jesus’s teachings in all we do. Daily renewal, prayer, and study all help us draw closer to the source of our strength and provide firm footing against any attempts to knock us down.
