King David wrote Psalm 62 during a time of extreme distress and betrayal by enemies who were actively plotting against him. But instead of retaliating, panicking or seeking human alliances to regain control, he turns to the Lord.

Psalm 62:2 is a declaration of faith and dependence on the Lord. David declares God’s sovereignty and his complete trust in the Lord and acknowledges God as his solid and immovable foundation. Then declares that God is all the defense he needs and that the Lord will protect him from his enemies. Finally, David declares that because God is with him, he will not be moved or shaken.

We may not face life threatening attacks like David, but most of us face betrayal, false accusations, or emotional distress during our lives. Today’s verse gives us a reason to pause before we act or speak. Yes, words and betrayal hurt, but we have someone in our corner who will fight for us at every turn. He is our rock, our defense, and our salvation. Remembering that can steady us in the storm. We just need to be silent and listen for His voice to guide us.
