Today’s verse follows several verses where David laments his suffering and fears. He is relentlessly hunted by King Saul and is exhausted. However, as is common for David, he pivots from lament to praise and surrender in today’s verse.

David frequently follows this pattern of lamenting before acknowledging God’s sovereignty. The pattern is also common among believers today. Sometimes, however, we get stuck in the lamenting which blinds us to God’s blessings.

Reading this verse today is a wake up call to move past the lamenting and remember that God is the source of joy, strength, and guidance. Doing so might just turn our day around.
