David sought the Lord for guidance throughout his life. He knew he could not battle his enemies alone and he realized the need to confess and repent when he sinned. He wasn’t a perfect human, but he trusted God with his whole heart.

Psalm 25:4 shows that David was teachable which is essential for growth. The prayer is a simple and straightforward plea that essentially says, “Lord, I don’t know how to do this thing and I’m not sure what decision is the best one. Please help me.” Within the short request lie surrender and acknowledgment of God’s wisdom and authority.

So often I spend hours or days pondering over major decisions, carefully weighing every possibility, only to realize I haven’t included God in the process. In reality, He should be the first one I consult.

Granted, the Lord doesn’t respond with a “burning bush” experience when I seek His guidance, but something shifts in my soul when I’m on the path He’s laid out for me. Peace replaces anxiety. Energy replaces fatigue. Joy replaces dread.

Sometimes the answer comes through someone else. I’ll read a devotional that address the struggle or someone will reach out to me with exactly what I need to hear. Or the sermon addresses the questions I’ve asked. I’ve learned to seek guidance from the Lord and from those whom He sends my way.

I desire to be open to hear His voice as He directs my path and teaches me His ways.
