There are seasons when our bodies seem to have more to say than we wish they did. Test results, doctor’s visits, and new diagnoses can easily become the loudest voices in the room.
This poem grew out of one of those seasons.
It is a reminder, to myself first, that while our bodies speak honestly, and fear often speaks loudly, neither has the final word.
The Deeper Voice
I walk by faith though questions cloud my sight;
My body speaks in ways I cannot hide.
Some days are long and weary with the fight,
Yet quiet hope keeps gently at my side.
Still, names may change while answers still unfold;
Fear bids my heart believe these names are me.
Its whisper leaves my trusting heart well fooled;
Its roar hides quiet hope and deafens me.
Then through the noise a deeper voice rings true;
A voice not loud, but one I’ve always known,
Repeats the words that help the truth break through;
My racing heart grows still beneath that tone.
So let the charts record what they may see;
My Healer calls the name He gave to me.
