Peter wrote today’s passage to address the critics and scoffers who were challenging him to answer questions about Christ’s return with specific dates and times. He explained that what humans views as delays are actually God showing mercy and patience and allowing time to turn from sin and find salvation.

God is timeless and operates outside of time and space and He does not rush to accomplish His purpose. He will complete His promises according to His timeline not ours.

Our job is to trust Him, to build our relationship with Him, and to listen for His guidance.
