The metaphor of deer going to high places symbolizes the Lord equipping us to navigate the most difficult times and to rise above them through faith. He is faithful to supply exactly what we need.
To fully understand the importance of Habakkuk 3:19 we must consider the context. Habakkuk begins the book by questioning why God would allow evil and violence in Juda to go unpunished. When God’s answer doesn’t make sense to Habakkuk he continues questioning the Lord.
Finally, in chapter three Habakkuk shifts his focus to praise as he realizes that even when the land is desolate and barren, God will give him strength, endurance, and equipment him to rise above the desolation and find joy.
I’m constantly amazed at the consistent pattern throughout the Bible of God’s reassurance that He will never leave us or forsake us no matter how dark our circumstances seem.
