In His Presence

I think we sometimes forget that through the Holy Spirit we have access to the Lord all the time. As my granddaughter told me a few years ago, “God isn’t a feeling. He just is.”

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:8-9

Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with a young woman who desires a closer relationship with Jesus. She saw my near death video on Dr. Licona’s YouTube channel and reached out to me via my website to ask, “What is He like? I want to see Him so I can truly know Him.” Last night we had a brief conversation about her desire to know Jesus better.

Today’s verse sums up our conversation perfectly. As I explained to my new friend, seeing Jesus is not necessary to experience His love or His presence. Rather, spending time with Him brings us closer to Him. He is ever present, but waits for us to choose to come to Him. I suggested spending a few minutes in silence a couple of days each week to just sit in His presence. She agreed to try this idea.

I think we sometimes forget that through the Holy Spirit we have access to the Lord all the time. As my granddaughter told me a few years ago, “God isn’t a feeling. He just is.” Yes, we experience peace and joy beyond explanation at times, but generally, we just know He is with us. The knowledge keeps us secure and brings us hope.
