Psalm 119:105 reminds us that scripture provides guidance and direction for every step we take. The psalmist’s lamp metaphor reflects the limited light lamps provided in ancient times and reminds us that the Lord doesn’t always illuminate the entire path.

I’m reminded of times when the power goes out and my only source of light is a flashlight. Even though I could probably navigate my way from my bedroom to the bathroom in the dark, having the flashlight steadies me as I slowly make the journey.

The same is true in my spiritual journey. Even though I know how the story ends, it’s hard to remember how I get there when I’m stressed or tired. (When my spiritual energy is low.) In those moments, scripture becomes my flashlight to guide me through the darkness.

However, just like I have to be sure my flashlight has batteries, I have to be diligent to renew my mind daily through reading scripture so the words are there when I need them.

Recharging and renewing our spiritual batteries keeps the lights shining through the darkness.

Challenge:

How do you keep your spiritual batteries charged?
