Today’s verse sits in the middle of several verses where John discusses the importance of testing “spirits” and discerning the truth. He encourages his audience to be diligent about comparing what teachers say with what Jesus said.

Then, in verse 4, he encourages them by reminding them that the Holy Spirit within them is stronger than the forces of this world. John continues by stating that, through the Holy Spirit, they have overcome the false teachings.

Today, we are bombarded by “teachings” daily which makes this verse a vital reminder to be diligent in our study of scripture. With so much information available, discernment is essential. We have what we need within us, but we have to use it and trust it.

Bottom line, when we read or hear something, it’s important to pause, pray, research it for Biblical accuracy and context, and listen to the spirit within before we share, like, or comment. Or before we alter our foundational beliefs on the matter.

Speaking to myself as I struggle with this at times. #traumarecovery #FaithInTheFog #DailyInspiration #discernment
