Ecclesiastes 3:1 opens one of the most iconic passages in the Bible. Songs have been based on the entire passage and the comparisons found in the verses are quoted at significant life moments. But verse 1 is perhaps the most significant because the words perfectly describe the order of God’s character.
God is consistent and orderly. He does not create chaos, but has set things in motion with a purpose in mind. The purpose is to bring us back to Him. However, He also has a unique plan for each of us.
He has set us on a path that is full of challenges, temptations, victories, and opportunities. He gave us all we need to travel the journey laid before us. He didn’t promise a trouble free life, but promised His constant presence.
Today’s verse helps us normalize the seasons of our lives by seeing God at the helm of everything we encounter. Life isn’t static and growth doesn’t occur overnight.
While Ecclesiastes 3:1 sets the stage for the verses that follow, the entire passage describes the ebb and flow of life. Just as seasons change from winter to spring to summer and to fall, we experience different seasons in our lives.
Changing seasons of life can be stressful, but today’s verse offers the comfort of knowing God is always there to guide us through each season.
