It’s important to note that Paul wrote this letter from a Roman prison. He was to a gift received from the Philippians. The full chapter explains in more detail how he learned to be content in all circumstances because he trusted the Lord and because he understood that peace and joy aren’t dependent on our circumstances.
Being content when my world is chaotic is difficult, but I’ve learned that focusing on Jesus rather than my circumstances always grounds me. Now, to be clear, I’m still learning to let go of my need to control outcomes and timelines, but I’m better at it than I was years ago.
Contentment isn’t the same as happiness, but simply means inner peace that isn’t affected by outward circumstances. So, when my focus shifts from the circumstances to Jesus, all the angst fades away and peace prevails. #traumarecovery #FaithInTheFog #dailyinspiration #contentment
