Historically, Psalm 105 was most likely penned by Asaph and was used when David brought the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem. The full text recounts God’s constant presence and protection throughout history and is a call to remember all the wonderful deeds the Lord has performed. It was used as a song of thanksgiving.

Verse 4 follows the list of God’s faithful acts with a reminder that we don’t have to rely on our own strength and, in fact, shouldn’t assume we have to face difficult situations alone. Rather we must intentionally turn to the Lord as a source of power and endurance.

The second part of the verse is an admonition to constantly seek the Lord’s presence. Thereby building an intimate relationship with Him. Such a connection comes from daily renewal not just going to church on Sunday.

As I reflect on today’s verse, I’m challenged to be diligent in seeking God daily and thanking Him for every blessing He pours out on me.
