Proverbs 19:21 presents an interesting dynamic that I don’t always consider and it made me pause to reconsider how I’ve viewed my future recently.

As I’ve said many times, I’m a planner and I like things orderly.  Those that know me understand my near obsession with spreadsheets, lists, and structure. My nervous system doesn’t do well in chaos or clutter. The need for structure increases when I’m stressed, ill, or overwhelmed.

Needless to say, today’s verse hit me hard because I realize I sometimes my plans don’t align with God’s plans or His timing. When life throws me curve and my plans get messed up, I don’t always manage my emotions well and I don’t always think about God’s role in navigating the change. I’m better than I was years ago, but I’m definitely a work in progress.

Today’s verse reminds me to pause, breathe, surrender even a small amount of control and trust God to work things out for His purpose even if His purpose is still unclear.
