1 Corinthians 15 is the Bible’s longest and most detailed account of the resurrection of the dead. Paul wrote the chapter to correct some believers who were denying the future bodily resurrection of the dead.
The verses leading up to today’s verse describe the transformation from mortal and perishable bodies to immortal and imperishable bodies. He personifies death and sin, writing: “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law” (v. 55–56).
In today’s verse Paul breaks into a declaration of gratitude for the victory we have over sin, death, and the law through Jesus Christ. It is only through Christ that the power of sin and death are defeated. We are no longer condemned by the law, but are set free by grace through Christ’s death on the cross.
We can rejoice knowing death has lost its sting and sin has lost its power because God loves so much He sent His Son to redeem us from both.
