David wrote this Psalm when he was fleeing from his son, Absalom, who had betrayed him. David’s words convey surrender and acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty and care for him in one of his darkest hours. The phrase “lifter of my head” refers to removing the shame David felt in that moment.

Psalm 3:3 is relevant today because the Lord is our protector in all circumstances and, through the Holy Spirit and grace, He removes our shame. We can hold our heads high knowing the Lord loves us unconditionally.
